Who Jennie-I is

Jennie-I.com

is the online place and

space for me,

Jennie I.

I as in number 1.

I as in first.

I as in Inglis.

I am Jennie Inglis.

MY CORE PURPOSE IS TO FOSTER A COMPASSIONATE ECONOMY

A compassionate economy is one that is resiliant and sustainable.  It supports local businesses and markets, pays living wages, invests in itself by recognizing defining characteristics, and gives everyone who will a role to play in creating a distinctive time and place.

My greatest desire is to relocalize economies and markets.

Promoting and supporting the local food movement, creating local employment opportunities, and celebrating the innate capacity for joy in children and adults are the themes of my work. These themes are woven into the brand Jennie-I, which includes Inglis Ink, a writing service dedicated to promoting all things local, Bow to Your Partner, a traditional set dance calling and instruction service, craft products and writing children’s literature and employment at the Sautee Nacoochee Center. Each is an endeavor to act, in its own small way, as a catalyst for change in the region.

There is a tremendous disconnect between work and the wellness of our communities. By rebuilding and regenerating a local economy, those who work will see the impact of their labors on those around them, their families and friends. And, to rebuild economies, we must support those who already produce products and make them more widely available to the general public within the community. Relocalizing begins here and now.

Weaver's Way Cooperative in Philadelphia, Pensylvania and the Sautee Transition Initiative in Sautee Nacoochee, Georgia (now defunct) - along with a tremendous number of other experiences - brought me to where I am today. Resilience and sustainability in communities are what is needed and that means detaching from the global corporate commerce machine so that we may encourage markets on the local and regional level. Investing in our own community builds character and will create change. What we will become and what others will see is the amazing community being itself.

Jennie Inglis, founder and creator of Jennie-I.com, is an idealist. Raised in Marietta, GA, I have been living and working in the mountains of northeast Georgia since 1998. It is here that I began building my dreams.

I took a BA in History from Rhodes College followed by work in historic preservation and small newspaper publishing. I attended the University of Illinois to attain a MS in Library & Information Science. This led to fourteen years in public service librarianship at a large urban system and a small academic library. Then followed eight years in the Georgia wine industry. A stint with the White County (Georgia) Chamber of Commerce in community development led me to my work with the Sautee Nacoochee Center in development and marketing.

Jennie-I is a voice for the compassionate economy.
